Under the patronage of His Highness the Amir of State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, HH the Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani witnessed the graduation ceremony of the 45th batch (Class of 2022) of Qatar University’s (QU) male students, which was held at the University’s Sports and Events Complex on Wednesday.
During the ceremony, HH the Deputy Amir honoured 120 outstanding graduate students, while Qatar University President Dr Hassan Rashid Al Derham handed the certificates to the 669 graduates of various disciplines.
A film was also screened about QU’s achievements during the academic year 2021-22, and the most prominent activities, programmes and research innovations in various fields.
Al Derham delivered a speech on the occasion in which he hailed QU’s celebration of the graduation of 3,436 male and female students from the 45th batch.
The new batch will join QU’s graduates since its inception, which exceeded 61,000 graduates, he added.
The QU president stressed that the celebration of the graduation of this batch of Qatar University’s students came within an exceptional historical context, which is the organisation of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
He added that the importance of this historical event is not limited to the fact that it places Qatar at the centre of global attention and follow-up in an unprecedented manner, or that it creates through its interactions the “global agenda” in the media, cultural and political fields, but it also represents a real addition to Qatar’s response to this challenge and proves its ability to play effective roles on the regional and international arenas, stressing that this is what the university contributed to.
He pointed out that Qatar University sought to be a supporter of the state in its strategic orientation towards assuming effective regional and global roles.
The university plays its roles in strengthening and building the concept of civilizational power and establishing its pillars and sources based on effective participation and on relationships building with various international universities and leading research centres at all levels.
On behalf of the 45th graduating class, student Hussain Ibrahim Al Ishaq affirmed Qatar’s keenness on education and its continuous support for its people.
He also promised that they will make achievements in every sector and specialisation, in every institution and company, and before that in the homeland.
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, members of the University’s Board of Trustees, Vice-Presidents of the university, members of administrative and faculty staff, and parents of students.
