Economically-active population in Qatar jumps 3 percent: PSA

The economically active population in Qatar increased by 3 percent in the fourth quarter of 2022 compared to the previous quarter, according to data released by the Planning and Statistics Authority.

The Labor Force Sample Survey conducted during this period revealed that the economic participation rate among the population aged 15 years and above was 87.7 percent.

The survey also showed that males had a higher participation rate than females, with 95.4 percent of males and 63.4 percent of females participating in the labor force. The highest rate of economic participation was observed among individuals aged 25-34 years, reaching 95.7 percent.

The survey indicated that the majority of workers in the Qatari market were wage workers, with a rate of 99.7 percent. The number of wage workers increased by 2.8 percent in the fourth quarter of 2022 compared to the previous quarter. The average monthly wage for wage workers was QR11,724, with males earning QR 11,486 and females earning QR 12,390.

The survey also showed an increase in the percentage of job seekers in Qatar, with the percentage of unemployed individuals defined by the International Labor Organization reaching 0.1 percent, an increase of 1.3 percent from the previous quarter. The unemployment rate was higher among females, with a rate of 0.4 percent compared to 0.1 percent for males. The unemployment rate for Qataris was 0.5 percent, with a higher rate among females (0.9 percent) than males (0.3 percent).

The age group with the highest unemployment rate was individuals aged 15-24 years, reaching 0.6 percent.

The number of economically inactive individuals in Qatar increased by 0.5 percent compared to the previous quarter, with 12.3 percent of the total population (15 years and above) recorded as economically inactive in the fourth quarter of 2022.

The number of economically inactive non-Qatari individuals increased by 0.5 percent, while the number of economically inactive Qatari individuals increased by 0.4 percent.

The total population in Qatar increased by 3.5 percent in the fourth quarter of 2022 compared to the previous quarter, with females experiencing a higher rate of increase (4.9 percent) than males (2.9 percent).

The Labor Force Sample Survey provides important data on the size and composition of the workforce in Qatar and its relationship with the demographic, social, and economic characteristics of the population.

The survey is conducted periodically, taking into account the recommendations of the International Labor Organization, and based on a scientifically designed sample to provide reliable estimates for the community. It covers all Qatari and non-Qatari households, as well as labor gatherings in Qatar.
