Qatar has welcomed the joint statement issued by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America on the start of initial talks in the city of Jeddah between the representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

In a statement on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the aspiration of Qatar that this step would pave the way for a permanent and comprehensive cessation of the military conflict, and then engagement in broad negotiations in which all Sudanese political forces participate in order to reach a comprehensive agreement and sustainable peace that achieves the aspirations of the brotherly Sudanese people for stability, development and prosperity.

The ministry reaffirmed Qatar’s position calling for an immediate halt to the fighting in Sudan, exercising maximum restraint, resorting to the voice of reason, giving priority to the public interest, sparing civilians the consequences of fighting, and facilitating the flow of humanitarian aid to those affected by the fighting.
