Qatar’s pavilion at International Horticultural Exhibition Florida Expo 2022 held in the Netherlands has bagged a place in the Guinness Book of Records for “the tallest tower made of 3D-printed concrete”.
The design pavilion, which was set up by the Ministry of Municipality under the slogan “Nest of the Desert”, was inspired by Qatar’s “Pigeon Towers”. The pavilion was created using 3D printing techniques and sustainable materials to emphasize Qatar’s vision, development and innovations to make the desert ecosystem greener.
The pavilion was 12.1 metres tall and weighed 56 tonnes. It took 107 hours over 11 days to complete the structure.
The Guinness certificate was received by Mohamed Ali Al Khoury, Commissioner-General of the Qatari Pavilion in Florida, in the presence of HE Nasser bin Ibrahim Al Langawi, Ambassador of Qatar to the Netherlands, HE Leen Verbeek, King’s Commissioner for the Province of Florence, and Ank Bijleveld, Governor of Meir, Bernard Oosterom, President of the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH), Tim Briercliffe, General Secretary of the Association, Hans Bakker, Executive Director of the Florida Expo 2022, and a number of senior officials and accredited ambassadors to the Netherlands.
